At first glance, the Baltic Sea beach at Priwall looked almost spotless. A gentle autumn breeze, dogs running along the sand, and barely any visible waste. But during our recent clean-up with Trash Hero Lübeck, we decided to look a little closer — and discovered that even “clean” beaches can hide an alarming amount of pollution beneath the surface.
At In Mocean, we design interactive recycling workshops that combine storytelling, hands-on recycling, and creative group work. Our goal is to show kids that plastic is not just waste — it’s a resource with potential, and that every small step towards sustainability matters.
When we talk about ocean conservation, most people imagine science dives, sea turtle rescues, or mapping fragile ecosystems. But sometimes, protecting our ocean starts with something far more simple: a handful of plastic bottle caps collected along a beach.
This year at Kieler Woche, we once again showed how exciting plastic recycling can be. Together with our partner One Earth One Ocean, we inspired hundreds of kids to rethink plastic waste and experience first-hand how trash can be turned into new treasures.
